Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how NOWA Technologies Pte. Ltd. ("NOWA," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses your personal information when you visit, use, or make a purchase from shop.nowaplanet.com (the "Site"), when you set up or use the NOWA device and the NOWA parent app or web app (together with the Site, the "Services"), or otherwise communicate with us. For purposes of this Privacy Policy, "you" and "your" means you as the user of the Services, whether you are a customer, website visitor, parent, or another individual whose information we have collected pursuant to this Privacy Policy.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using and accessing any of the Services, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not use or access any of the Services.
1. Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised Privacy Policy on the Site, update the "Last updated" date, and take any other steps required by applicable law.
2. Personal Information We Collect
The information we collect about you depends on how you interact with our Services. We collect information directly from you, information we collect automatically through your use of the Services, and information we collect from other sources. This section describes two categories of information: (a) Store and checkout information, collected when you browse or purchase on our Site, and (b) NOWA device and app information, collected when a parent sets up and a child uses the NOWA device and parent app.
(a) Store and checkout information
- Contact details — including your name, address, phone number, and email address.
- Order information — including your billing address, shipping address, payment confirmation, email address, and phone number.
- Account information — including your username, password, and security questions, if you create an account with us.
- Shopping information — including the items you view, place in your cart, add to your wishlist, or purchase.
- Customer support information — including the information you choose to include in communications with us, such as when sending a message.
- Device and usage information — such as information about how you navigate the Site, which pages you visit, referring/exit pages, browser and device type, and other technical details, collected automatically via cookies and similar technologies.
(b) NOWA device and app information
When a parent sets up and uses the NOWA device and parent app on behalf of their child, we collect the following, directly from the parent or from the child's use of the device:
- Child profile information, entered by the parent during setup — including the child's name, age, gender, and stated interests. Children do not enter this information themselves; it is provided and controlled by the parent.
- Voice audio, captured by the device's microphone only while the child presses and holds the device's voice button (push-to-talk) to make a request. The audio is sent to a speech-to-text step so we can understand the child's request, as described in Section 4. The raw audio recording is permanently deleted immediately after it is converted to text — we do not retain the audio itself. The resulting text transcript of what your child said is kept as part of the interaction logs described below: it is encrypted, stored for a fixed period, and can be viewed and deleted by the parent (see Sections 8 and 9). The device does not include a camera — no photo or video is ever captured. The device has a hardware mute switch: when switched to the mute position, the microphone circuit is physically disconnected, and no audio can be captured or transmitted regardless of software state.
- Interaction logs, which record your child's play sessions — including the actions and responses of the virtual pet and a text transcript of your child's spoken requests, created from the voice audio before that audio is deleted. These logs are collected with parental consent, encrypted using AES-256, retained for a fixed period and then automatically deleted (see Section 9), viewable and deletable by the parent through the parent app, and are never sold.
- Gameplay data, including virtual pet stats, completed missions, in-app entitlements, and related activity generated as the child plays with the device.
- Parent account information, including the parent's email and password (or Google account credentials, if the parent signs in with Google) and parental control settings (such as restricted topics, bedtime hours, and usage limits) configured through the parent app.
3. Sources
We collect personal information from the following sources:
- Directly from you or your child's use of the device — for example, information you provide when creating a parent account, entering your child's profile, or configuring parental controls, and information generated when your child speaks to the device.
- Automatically through the Services — for example, usage data and cookies collected as you or your child interact with the Site, device, or parent app.
- From our service providers — for example, companies that help us with order fulfillment, payment processing, analytics, and the AI processing described in Section 4.
4. How We Use Your Personal Information
We use your personal information for the following purposes:
- To provide the Services — including managing your account, processing orders and payments, arranging shipping, and providing customer support.
- To operate the NOWA device's play experience — The virtual pet does not speak in human language; it expresses itself only through animal sounds and on-screen behavior that reflect its state, and the AI model does not generate spoken replies to your child. When your child presses the voice button and speaks, the audio is converted to text and processed — including by an AI model — solely to understand the request and select an appropriate pet action or reaction, consistent with the parent's configured settings (such as restricted topics). The raw audio is deleted immediately after it is converted to text; the resulting text transcript is stored as described in Sections 2 and 9. This processing may involve third-party AI service providers, who process the data solely to operate the device and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- To provide parent-app information — including usage summaries and your child's play activity, made available to the parent through the parent app.
- To apply parental controls — including restricted-topic filtering, bedtime mode, usage limits, and sensitive-content alerts configured by the parent.
- To improve and maintain the Services — including troubleshooting, securing the Services against fraud and abuse, and improving device and app functionality.
- To communicate with you — including order confirmations, shipping updates, customer support responses, and (where permitted) marketing communications, which you may opt out of at any time.
- To comply with legal obligations — including responding to lawful requests from public authorities.
5. How We Disclose Personal Information
In certain circumstances, we may disclose your personal information to third parties for legitimate purposes, including:
- With vendors and service providers who help us provide the Services, including payment processing (Stripe/Shopify Payments), order fulfillment and shipping, IT and website administration, and the third-party AI service providers that power the speech-understanding processing described in Section 4.
- With business and marketing partners to provide marketing services, subject to your consent and choices as described in Section 10.
- When you direct, request, or otherwise consent to our disclosure of certain information to third parties.
- With our affiliates or within our corporate group.
- In connection with a business transaction, such as a merger, sale of company assets, or financing.
- To comply with applicable law, respond to legal process, or respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
- We do not sell or share personal information collected from or about children for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use child profile data, voice transcripts, or interaction logs for targeted advertising to children.
6. Relationship With Shopify
We use Shopify to power our online store. You can learn more about how Shopify uses your personal information in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy at https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy/consumers.
7. Third-Party Websites and Links
The Services may provide links to websites or other online platforms operated by third parties. If you follow links to sites not affiliated or controlled by us, you should review their privacy and security policies and other terms of use. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the privacy or security practices of such third parties.
8. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
NOWA is a device and companion app designed for children ages 3–10, used under the supervision and control of a parent or legal guardian. We designed the Services, and this section, to comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA").
- Children do not create their own account. A parent or legal guardian creates and controls the parent account (by email/password or Google sign-in) and pairs the device to that account. The child interacts with the device itself and, where applicable, a child-facing profile within the device experience — the child never independently registers, provides contact information to create an account, or bypasses parental setup.
- Parents provide the child's profile information. Any information about the child — name, age, gender, and stated interests — is entered by the parent, not solicited directly from the child.
- Verifiable parental consent is obtained during purchase and device setup — through the payment-card authorization completed at checkout, sign-in with a verified account provider (such as Google or Apple), and confirmation of device pairing in the parent app — before the child profile is created and before the device begins processing voice audio or collecting interaction logs and transcripts.
- We store a text transcript of what your child says. The raw voice audio is permanently deleted immediately after it is converted to text, but the resulting text transcript is kept as part of your child's interaction logs. It is encrypted using AES-256, retained for a fixed period, and then automatically deleted (see Section 9). Parents can view and delete this transcript at any time.
- Parents can review and delete their child's data. Through the parent app, parents can view the conversation transcript along with their child's other information, and may delete their child's personal information — including interaction logs and transcripts, child profile data, and gameplay data — at any time through the parent app's controls or by contacting us at the details in Section 14.
- We do not sell children's personal information, and we do not use a child's personal information (including transcripts, interaction logs, or profile data) for behavioral advertising or to build advertising profiles targeting children.
- No camera. The NOWA device does not have a camera and never captures photo or video of the child.
- Hardware mute control. Parents and children can physically disconnect the device's microphone at any time using the hardware mute switch, independent of any software setting.
- If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child in a manner inconsistent with COPPA and without the required parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information.
9. Security and Retention
We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect the personal information we collect. Interaction logs, including the text transcripts of your child's spoken requests, are stored encrypted using AES-256. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Interaction logs, including the text transcripts of your child's spoken requests, are retained for 60 days and are then automatically deleted. This 60-day retention period is fixed and cannot be adjusted. Raw voice audio is not subject to this retention period, because it is permanently deleted immediately after it is converted to text. Parents can also delete their child's interaction logs and transcripts manually at any time through the parent app.
10. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to access/know the personal information we hold about you or your child.
- Right to delete personal information we hold about you or your child, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and of profiling for certain automated decisions, as those terms are defined under applicable law.
- Right to opt out of targeted advertising.
You can exercise the opt-out right for our Site by visiting https://shop.nowaplanet.com/pages/data-sharing-opt-out, or by enabling the Global Privacy Control in a supported browser, which we will honor as an opt-out request.
Parents additionally have the right to review, and to request deletion of, any personal information collected from their child, as described in Section 8. To exercise this right, contact us using the information in Section 14.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
11. Complaints
If you have complaints about how we process your personal information, please contact us using the details in Section 14. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection or consumer protection authority.
12. International Transfers
We are headquartered in Singapore, and we may transfer, store, or process your personal information outside of your country of residence, including in Singapore and the United States. Whenever we transfer personal information internationally, we take steps to protect that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
13. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where required by law, by additional notice.
